Faculty mentoring can range from one-on-one formal mentoring (where a knowledgeable, more experienced person guides, teaches, and coaches an apprentice) to anti-mentoring (where a knowledgeable, more experience person undermines an apprentice). While tradition suggests that mentoring happens naturally, research indicates that “natural” mentoring only happens with about one third of tenure-track faculty, with minorities and women being the least likely to receive mentoring (Boyle and Boice 159) and the most likely to be undermined. In order to further contribute to positive faculty mentoring for academics, LHC has launched this virtual mentoring component. Included on the pages “Selected Bibliography” and “Selected Websites” are lists of texts and websites that are relevant to faculty mentoring.
